Description

The great cedar in the center of Locarno is an original watercolor on semi-rough paper (2026, Minusio, Switzerland). Maximum external dimensions, including the frame and without a mat, are 30 × 40 cm.

A large tree with a wide, lush canopy rises at the center of the composition. The dark, sturdy trunk divides into numerous branches, supporting a mass of green leaves rendered through overlapping brushstrokes, transparencies, and tonal variations.

The tree dominates a green space within Locarno’s urban landscape. Surrounding it are bushes, smaller trees, palms, and city furnishings, while light-colored buildings at the sides suggest the city’s presence. In the background, mountains dissolve into gray-blue tones, framing the scene with their discreet presence.

The painting explores the relationship between nature and the urban environment: the tree appears as a point of balance and continuity, a living presence dominating the space without detaching from the cityscape. Its canopy offers symbolic protection to the small park below, introducing a sense of shade, calm, and stability.

Green vegetation tones sit alongside the delicate colors of the sky and mountains, while architectural details and street lines add depth to the composition. The semi-rough paper enhances the watercolor grain, lending a natural feel to the variations in the canopy, lawn, and mountain surfaces.

A poetic tribute to the city’s trees and the Locarno landscape, ideal for lovers of nature, urban parks, and the luminous atmosphere of Ticino. The work is sold framed, without a mat, and is ready to hang.
