The Fisherman by Moonlight

CHF 75.00

On 21 x 30 cm cardstock, the dark canopy of a large tree occupies the left corner of the sky while a large full moon illuminates a tranquil lake, where a fisherman in a conical hat rows a small boat in front of mountains shaded in grey tones; the watercolor glazes and pencil strokes create an Asian-style night landscape, silent and meditative, perfect for combining with other paintings in the series to decorate reading nooks, studies, or relaxation spaces.

The original painting is sold with a mat, unframed. Depending on your device and viewing conditions, colors and details may not exactly match the original work, and the dimensions provided may differ slightly from the actual size.

Description

“The Fisherman by Moonlight” is a monochromatic watercolor that continues the series of Asian landscapes with a boat and fisherman, focusing here on the dialogue between the dark silhouette of the tree and the large lunar disc. In the upper left, the dense, drooping canopy of a tree occupies much of the sky, with leaves and branches built from close watercolor strokes that create a dark, compact mass, from which thin fronds hang like natural curtains. Opposite, as if to balance this presence, a large full moon emerges from the grey glazes, surrounded by light circular traces suggesting a luminous halo and the vibration of the night air.

Lower down, on the calm lake, the small boat with the fisherman in a conical hat glides slowly across the water, depicted with a few essential strokes that establish its direction and stillness. The mountains in the background, rendered through overlapping layers of increasingly lighter greys, fade into the distance, while a group of birds crosses the sky diagonally, adding a light movement to the scene. The limitation to the grayscale, combined with the strong contrast between the black of the tree and boat and the brightness of the moon, transforms this landscape into an image of meditation and silence, ideal for pairing with other paintings in the series to create a coherent and contemplative visual journey.
