Description
Piazza Grande is an original work created in watercolor, ink and pencil on semi-rough paper (2026, Minusio, Switzerland). The maximum external dimensions, including the mat and without a frame, are 40 × 30 cm.
The work captures the historic heart of Locarno in its most silent and contemplative dimension. In the foreground, the wide cobblestone carpet characteristic of the square is built through a texture of dense, minute marks that guide the eye from the lower corner toward the center of the scene, like a natural path through the urban space. The rendering of the pavement emerges from long and patient work of observation and drawing: each cobblestone contributes to the vibration of the surface and the visual rhythm of the whole, without becoming a mere decorative detail.
On this animated yet rigorous pavement stand the façades of historic buildings, aligned beneath the arcades and defined by ink lines and delicate pastel tones. The arcades create a subtle band of shadow in contrast with the bright sky, while the volumes of the buildings suggest the life of cafés, shops and events that usually animate the square. Small birds in flight break the stillness of the composition and add an accent of lightness.
Watercolor, ink and pencil bring stone, plaster and sky into dialogue, transforming Piazza Grande into a place of living memory, where past and present coexist in the same gaze. Work sold with mat, without frame; ready to be framed.
