Description
The Four Plane Trees of the Debarcadero is an original watercolor on rough paper (2026, Minusio, Switzerland). Maximum external dimensions, including mat and black frame, are 30 × 40 cm.
The painting depicts the four historic plane trees near the Locarno Debarcadero, on the shores of Lake Maggiore. Massive trunks occupy the foreground, rising upward into a complex network of branches that spans nearly the entire composition.
Time-worn bark is rendered through glazes, shadows, and tonal variations that highlight its sculptural form. Intertwined branches create a natural, dynamic rhythm, while scattered leaves suggest a season of transition and a light breeze moving through the scene.
Beyond the trees, the lake appears calm and luminous, alongside the lakeside promenade railing and the architectural elements of the Debarcadero. The water introduces a visual pause between the dense trunks and the horizon, connecting the trees to the city and the Lake Maggiore landscape.
The watercolor interprets this iconic location with an intimate, contemplative atmosphere. The plane trees become silent witnesses to life on the promenade: ancient trees, rooted in Locarno’s memory, uniting nature, history, and daily life.
Rough paper enhances the watercolor gradients and the tactile quality of the bark, while intense contrasts in the trunks and branches add depth to the composition. A white mat and black frame complete the work, offering an elegant presentation ready for display.
A poetic tribute to one of the most recognizable corners of the Locarno promenade, ideal for lovers of Ticino landscapes, monumental trees, and works tied to the memory of places.
